Cloud: Betriebssystem für die Ära des Internets?

Good OS schickt ein neues Betriebssystem ins Rennen, das Ernst machen soll mit Cloud Computing und deswegen auch programmatisch schlicht und einfach Cloud heißt.
Cloud ist Nachfolger des Linux-basierten gOS, das Wal-Mart in den USA mit einer speziellen Rechner-Linie namens Everex schon mal an den Käufer bringen wollte – sowohl Hard- als auch Software wurde allerdings bereits nach wenigen Monaten wieder aus den Regalen genommen.
Der Nutzen von Cloud dagegen soll dem User von Anfang an klar sein: Statt sich wie gOS als Desktop zu öffnen, wird es direkt in einem Web-Browser gebootet; dort öffnet sich eien Chrome-artige Begrüßungsseite mit Shortcuts zu Anwendungen wie Google Docs und Calendar und zu Blogegr und YouTube.
Cloud soll – anders als Chrome – wie ein eigenständiges Betriebssystem agieren, ohne jedoch das darunterliegende OS auf dem Rechner zu ersetzen.
Good OS verkündet, dass sich mit Cloud Anwendungen wie Skype oder Media Player steuern ließen, räumt aber ein, dass anspruchsvollere Programme (wahrscheinlich sind damit Office-Anwendungen) doch ein OS à la Windows oder Linux benötigen. Genaueres über Cloud will man Anfang 2009 auf der CES bekannt geben. [gk]

Äh was? ein OS zum surfen? Gibts das nicht sogar schon auf MB von Asus? abgespecktes Linux mit einem Internet Browser, Skype und einem Multimedia Player. Was ist daran jetzt Wolkig?
